Whoever said two miles was easy was a big, fat liar. I’m telling you from first hand experience, it’s not. Especially when it’s 4 p.m. in the afternoon in hot, humid Texas. While it may not have been easy, the Bayou Bash Relays, hosted by the Bayou City Road Runners at the lovely TC Jester Park, sure was a blast. I did relays all the time growing up as a swimmer, but when it comes to sports on land, I tend to fly solo. Running this past weekend was a solid reminder of how much I actually love being part of a team.
Our team was a mash up of Revolution Studio peeps + friends and other runners (including my hubby). We had two teams represented and opted to go co-ed…you know, to make it fair for the boys. One of my favorite things about our team was that we had some newbie runners in the mix. For a few of our team members this was their first race, and I hope it own’t be their last!
The event itself was laid back and completely relaxed. Plus, there was plenty of beer for post-race consumption. I was feeling a bit under the weather from the get go, so I can’t say I performed my best, but it was definitely fun cheering the teams and seeing the running community bond together. You can bet I’ll be signing up for the next cross country relay race…even if it is a tough two-miler!
