Best Spring Races in Houston

Springtime in Houston is the best. The weather is perfect, patios are calling with crawfish and beer, and there’s a race to run almost every weekend! My marathon season usually ends after Houston and the half in Austin so I spend spring focusing on speed and fun. So here’s my list of the best (short) races to run in Houston this season.

February 25: Race Against Violence 5K

Good cause (Houston Area Women’s Center) + fast course on Allen Parkway + after party sponsored by Whole Foods. I’ll be running on Saturday and am hoping for great weather!

March 4: Rodeo Run 5K + 10K

I love rodeo season in Houston. When I moved here four years ago, it was one of the first things that really made me feel like I was living in Texas. The Rodeo Run has a 5K or 10K option and runs from downtown along Allen Parkway.

March 18: Bayou City Classic 10K

I’m bummed to be out of town for this classic Houston race. Dress up in costume with your friends to compete in the Centipede contest!

April 15: Green 6.2

This sustainable 10K in CITYCENTRE is also an official qualifier for early registration into the Chevron Houston Marathon.

April 22: Freedom Fest & Human Trafficking 5K

Don your super hero best and join the fight to end human trafficking. Put on by Free the Captives, this race aims to raise awareness about teenaged human trafficking in Houston.

May 7: Santo de Mayo 5K

Celebrate Cinco de Mayo by running a 5K and drinking Saint Arnold’s Brewing Company’s beer. That’s a win/win if I’ve ever seen one!

Any other races you’d add to the list? Send them my way and I’ll continue to update!

  1. I’ve always wanted to partake in a race! I’ve just gotta learn how to train for one! I run pretty regularly, but not for endurance.
